entrant #12: Ratdude747's 1984 F150
Owner: Ratdude747 (Larry Bolan)
Location: Madison, IN
Model: 1984 Ford F150 XL
Engine: Stock (Rebuilt) 300 L6, Stock EEC IV Feedback Carb (Carter YFA) and TFI Ignition
Driveline: AOD Transmission, 3.06 Open 8.8 Axle (RWD). Both are stock
Upgrades: CB Radio. Custom Autosound USA-1 Head Unit. Isolated Radio Power/ground wiring. Reconditioned (needle painted) instrument cluster w/ trip odometer and tachometer. Dual-position “Type 9” mirrors. OEM “ITT” underhood retractable work light. Delay wipers. Heated O2 Sensor Swap.
Story: I bought this F150 in July 2019 as a late birthday gift to myself for $750. The list of repairs and upgrades is very long… to make a long story short, the main issues at the time of purchase were poor performance (carb/vacuum/ignition issues, 5/6 broken upper compression rings), no brakes (Almost completely rebuilt, shy of parking brake cables and all but 1 of the solid brake lines), and just a general lack of TLC. I’ve gotten all major systems operational (including the A/C!); the main outstanding issues are body and interior related. It wasn’t intended to be a daily driver, but has served me well as such. I’ve also taken it on some long trips; it’s been west of the Mississippi river twice. It turns many heads, and even die-hard Chevy and Mopar guys dig the venerable 300!
