Entrant #40: Jay's 1986 F150
Owner: Jay Harrell aka Jaydog
Location: Wichita, KS
Model: 1986 F-150 XLT Lariat
Engine: Stock 300 CI straight six, new one-barrel Carter carburetor
Driveline: Four-speed manual
Upgrades: Cassette player, stainless steel tool box, bed rails
Story: My grandfather was the second owner of this truck, buying it in 1994. I was in the Army at the time and when I came home on leave, he enjoyed showing it off. He was a house painter and used the truck as a mobile office and shop for nearly a decade. He decided to give me the truck to eventually pass down to my son. However, he passed away before anything was put in writing. My uncle got the truck from the estate and didn't drive it for years.
In April of 2019, my uncle said he wanted to give the truck to me, not telling me it had sat for 3 years, not even being started. Not to be deterred, I put in a new battery, solenoid, carburetor, spark plugs, wires and brakes and got it running. It cruises smoothly down the road and is fun to drive.
I call it the "Silver Streak" because every cool vehicle should have a name to match its' personality.
