Owner: Jonathan Donald
Location: Golden Valley, AZ
Model: 1986 F350 Crew Cab XL 4x4 6.9L diesel
Engine: damaged early block 6.9L removed. Replacement is a 1994 7.3L bored .020” over, factory turbo engine connecting rods, R&D main bearing studs and girdle kit, ARP head studs, ceramic coated Mahale pistons, total seal gap-less 2nd piston rings, R&D Stage 1 cam grind, Comp Cams 910 valve springs shimmed to 1.800”, turbo engine exhaust valves, R&D hot side turbo kit, 7.3 Superduty aluminum intercooler, R&D 150cc DB4 injection pump, NOS Delphi BB code injectors, R&D Stage 2 turbocharger (Borg Warner 64.5mm SX-E, T4 flange .91 AR).
Drivetrain: wide ratio ZF5 drilled for IDI bolt pattern, Borg Warner 1345 transfer case, Gear Vendor’s overdrive, kingpin Dana 60 front, 1996 long yoke Sterling 10.25” rear axle 4.10 gear ratio.
Upgrades: 7.3 IDI engine (see above) ZF5 and GearVendors (see above) frame chop to factory short bed length, have parts for hydroboost brake conversion, Saginaw steering pump, captain chairs/console in front, Centurion fold down rear bench seat (makes into a bed), Lund visor and much more...
Story: this was my first bullnose, purchased in fall of 2005. It was also my first diesel, and my rookie blunders were epic. The fact that I still have this truck 15 years later and have invested more than the purchase price in upgrades should speak to how much I fell in love with it. I originally bought it to do field research during my college years, and once rebuilt it will be used to tow our 1960 aluminum streamline travel trailer and for back country exploring. It continues to wait behind other projects, as I don’t want it rushed or put into service until I am mostly done restoring it.
