Entrant #48: Chris' 1982 XLS
Owner: Chris McGaugh aka MotorsportXLT
Location: Great Falls, Montana
Model: 1982 Ford F-150 XLS Flareside
Engine: 5.0 2V (100% stock minus Emissions)
Driveline: 4spd OD; 9”
Upgrades: Blue Wheels LOL
Story: When I was looking for my first truck, I wanted either a Bullnose Bronco or Flareside. I ended up finding the Bronco, but I still wanted a little Flareside. After I purchased my Bronco, my dad brought up how he remembered that some special 80s Ford trucks had aluminum dash bezels. After googling it, I found the “XLS” and from that day on I wanted one. After reading forms and such I realized how rare the XLS package is. Starting at the age of 16, I have been collecting NOS XLS parts. I always planned on building a clone of one. I NEVER thought I’d find a real one.
This past summer changed that. Christopher Lott sent me a link to a Flareside XLS in Spokane. He kept telling me to make the 8 hour drive. I got ahold of the guy and made him an offer and he took it. The only problem was this was the start of the COVID-19 restrictions. Luckily I had friends who were willing to store the truck for me until things slowed down.
Right now she is at home with my dad. After I get done with college I would love to do a resto-mod to this truck. I want to perform a crown Victoria front rack and pinion steering swap. I also want to put a new 5.0 coyote engine with a 6 speed in the old girl. I basically want you to look at the truck and think it’s 1982, but when when you drive it, it’s 2020. My favorite part about this truck is it’s color scheme matches my ‘85 Bronco. I do have to give a shout out to one of my best friends Caleb. He helped me go get the truck from Spokane.
