Entrant #21: Skaeke's 1985 F150 Lariat
Owner: Forum member Skaeke
Location: Baltimore, MD
Model: 1985 F150 Lariat 4wd Regular Cab Long Bed
Engine: 390 Ford Fe w/ Edelbrock Performer Heads, 268H Comp Cam, Edelbrock Performer Intake, & 600cfm Holley
Driveline: NP435, NP208F, 9"
Upgrades: Converted to manual transmission, Hydroboost
Story: After journeying a vast distance (2 hours) and bartering for ages(~5 minutes) I was able to acquire this one of a kind (pretty common) brown truck from deep in the Pennsylvania wilderness. It was powered by a 351w so wise (old) so reserved and confident (weak) that the return journey was one of quiet (loud exhaust) contemplation (slow).
I commuted in this regal manner for about 18 months before the venerable, ancient windsor motor joined it's forefathers. Around the same time I had just completed a cross country 'top gear' style road rally in a 1972 F-350 Tow Truck that I had built a 390FE for...
Throwing caution and common sense to the wind I got rid of the tow truck (A vehicle that had transformed my commute from a relaxing ride into a harrowing life or death struggle for survival) and decided to slap the 390FE into the now 351w-less bullnose.
To that end I rebuilt a FE C6, made custom motor perches from the stock windsor perches shoe horned everything in to the engine bay. And presto a working 390FE w C6 4x4 bullnose!!!!!! It was a blast to drive! Put a few hundreds miles on it and all seemed done. Luckily at this point I realised I had made a mistake and it should be a manual transmission not a slushbox! Phew that was close. Almost had a working truck again.
Now I am half way thru converting my Frankentruck into a manual truck. Also adding in hydroboost, and toying with making a custom gauge cluster.
Why would I finish my project truck? Then it isn't my project truck anymore?! It's just another fun vehicle to drive and where is the daunting exhausting never ending struggle in that?! Finish it? What are you even saying?!. You're starting to sound like my wife...
